Privacy Policy
This document sets out the Privacy Policy for the RegoCheck VIC mobile application.
RegoCheck VIC is committed to providing you with the best possible experience with the application. RegoCheck VIC is bound by the Privacy Act 1988, which sets out a number of principles concerning the privacy of individuals.
Collection of your personal information
Currently, all aspects of the application are accessible without an account and therefore no personal information is collected. In the future there may be a requirement for an account. The information that would be required may include, but is not limited to, personally identifiable information such as a name, a unique username and password, or information for the recovery of a lost password.
Vehicle searches
When you search for a vehicle, the number plate or VIN you enter or scan is sent to the services that answer the search:
- the Victoria Police stolen vehicle register, to check whether the vehicle has been reported stolen; and
- a vehicle information service, to find the vehicle's make and model.
If you choose the official registration check, the registration is checked with the official Victorian registration check. Depending on your device and the vehicle type, the app does this for you or opens the check in your web browser for you to enter it yourself. These services handle searches under their own terms and privacy policies.
Your search history is stored on your device. You can delete searches in the app at any time, and uninstalling the app removes them.
Advertising
The app shows ads provided by Google AdMob. Google may collect information such as your device's advertising identifier, IP address and how ads are viewed and interacted with, to show and measure ads. You can read how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can reset or limit the use of your advertising identifier in your phone's settings.
Sharing of your personal information
RegoCheck VIC does not share any of its users' personal information. On occasion some limited personally identifiable information (email/name) may be shared with support organisations, e.g. the database provider, for items such as support enquiries (e.g. being locked out of an account). RegoCheck VIC takes reasonable steps to ensure that these organisations are bound by confidentiality and privacy obligations in relation to the protection of your personal information.
Use of your personal information
For each user of the application, we collect the following non-personally identifiable information, including but not limited to: device token, locale identifier, time zone, app version, Firebase instance and instance ID. This collected information is used solely internally for the purpose of gauging visitor traffic, trends and delivering personalised content to you.
From time to time, we may use customer information for new, unanticipated uses not previously disclosed in our privacy notice. If our information practices change at some time in the future, we will use for these new purposes only data collected from the time of the policy change forward, which will adhere to our updated practices.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
RegoCheck VIC reserves the right to make amendments to this Privacy Policy at any time. If you have objections to the Privacy Policy, you should not use the application.
Accessing your personal information
You have a right to access your personal information, subject to exceptions allowed by law. If you would like to do so, please let us know. You may be required to put your request in writing for security reasons.
Requesting your data deletion
You have a right to request the deletion of your personal information from the cloud backup. Simply contact RegoCheckVIC@gmail.com to confirm you want your information removed. Any other personal data can be removed by uninstalling the application.
